Download AV Guidelines
WBASNY is an accredited provider of individual viewing of videotape and audiotape formats for experienced attorneys. Newly admitted (within their first two years of admission to the New York Bar) attorneys may not receive credit for taped formats. This memorandum is to set out guidelines and procedures specifically relevant to taped formats. The guidelines and procedures set forth in the WBASNY CLE Memorandum remain in effect except where modified herein.
I. VIDEO AND AUDIO LIBRARY:
The WBASNY Videotape and Audiotape Library contain copies of taped traditional format CLE seminars that were approved and presented in accordance with the required guidelines and procedures. Each chapter may receive for its own library a copy of each currently existing tape and all tapes made by WBASNY of future seminars. Each chapter shall make available to its members copies of the tapes. Each chapter can maintain its own library of tapes and determine for itself how best to distribute said tapes to its members.
WBASNY is obligated by contract to a videographer for copying of such tapes and must provide for payment thereof. Each chapter must contact Executive Director Linda Chiaverini for payment of such fees. So long as the required fee is remitted, each chapter may choose to either charge an additional fee for its members or make the tapes available for free as a member benefit.
Each chapter may also build its own library of tapes of approved programs presented and taped by the chapter itself. Any arrangement made with a videographer for those purposes is each chapter’s responsibility.
II. PROGRAMS PRODUCED AFTER JANUARY 1, 2003:
WBASNY will continue to tape programs at its Annual Convention and make said tapes available to each chapter in accordance with the prior section.
Each chapter would also have the option of taping a given program and making it available for individual distribution as desired. It is the chapter's decision whether to provide future tapes as a member benefit or to charge individuals for viewings.
It is each chapter's obligation to ensure a quality tape. There should be proper use and monitoring of microphones to ensure clear sound with strong volume and minimum background noise. Videotapes should be filmed in Best Quality Mode on professional quality tape; there should be bright lighting with no shadows and hot contrast lighting should be avoided. A professional should be employed in order to ensure a quality, professional product. It would be the chapter's obligation to engage a videographer and to make arrangements for copying. The written materials must be distributed along with the tape and the requisite paperwork (see following section) from the viewers must be submitted for a CLE certificate.
Effective January 1, 2003, all accredited providers for nontraditional self study formats are required to provide independent sponsor verification of an attorney's participation in the self-study program. Accordingly, any tapes produced after January 1, 2003 must contain an embedded alphanumeric code which the attorney seeking credit must submit along with the requisite paperwork. Such code can be embedded by the videographer. A copy of the tape along with the alphanumeric code must be provided to Linda Chiaverini upon completion of the taping.
III. CLE CERTIFICATES:
For individual viewings of approved tapes, a member must complete and submit an evaluation form for said program, an affirmation of attendance containing the alphanumeric code of said tape and a check payable to WBASNY in the amount of $15 to Linda Chiaverini at Post Office Box 936, Planetarium Station, New York, N.Y. 10024-0546 in order to receive a CLE certificate.
